The Montepulciano Run is back: a running race among the vineyards and hills of Vino Nobile
Brazil, Canada, Australia, Norway, Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands… are just some of the 21 countries that will be represented, by at least one athlete, at the VII edition of the MontepulcianoRun: the sporting event that will be held in Montepulciano (SI), from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 October 2024, aimed at lovers of running, trekking and good living. Eight different events capable of involving both professional athletes and simple outdoor sports enthusiasts. They range from the traditional marathon along the magnificent landscapes of the most iconic Tuscan countryside where Vino Nobile is produced, to night-time walks in the elegant Renaissance historic center of Montepulciano, the so-called “pearl of the 16th century”, up to the food and wine tour in the famous Poliziano cellars.
“The Montepulciano Run is an event that celebrates not only the passion for sport, but also the beauty of our territory and the quality of life that we promote. It is an extraordinary opportunity to immerse yourself in our food and wine, artistic and landscape heritage, reaffirming the strong link between sport, well-being and sustainability. I thank the organizers and all the participants of the Montepulciano Run, which best represents our community and its ability to welcome and promote quality tourism”, says Mayor Michele Angiolini.
“When you think of Tuscany, images of rolling hills dotted with cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves, villages that seem suspended in time, ancient farmhouses and farms that majestically dominate the surrounding fields immediately come to mind. Arriving in Montepulciano, you realize that that postcard Tuscany really exists. Now, imagine playing sports, challenging yourself in competitions or simply walking in places like this, where everything speaks of beauty, art, good living and well-being”, this is the presentation of the event by the organizers of the A.S.D. “La Chianina” and “La Chianina Running”.
The program. The competitive events include a seven-kilometer night-time urban trail, the “Lumediluna” which will be held on Friday, October 4 at 9:30 p.m. with departure and arrival in Piazza Grande (also planned as a non-competitive event), a way to get to know and discover the beauties of the historic center of Montepulciano. While on Sunday, October 6, the 14-kilometer (“Laquattordici”), 25-kilometer (“Laventicinque”) and the classic 42-kilometer marathon (“Laquarantadue”) are scheduled, all starting at 9:30 a.m. at Viale della Rimembranza, a few steps from the magnificent Temple of San Biagio.
As for the non-competitive events, it is possible to participate, as mentioned, in a more relaxing version of the “Lumediluna”, at night, again on Friday, October 4 at 9:30 p.m., from Piazza Grande. Saturday 5 October is the turn of “Nobilipassi”, starting at 9:30, a walk that, shaping up as a real food and wine tour, will stop at various cellars in the Montepulciano area, even more numerous this year. Finally, among the non-competitive events, but still quite challenging (so much so that they are not recommended for children) “Nordic Walking” and “Montepulcianonfoot”, both on Sunday 6 October, at 9:30, always starting in Viale della Rimembranza (San Biagio) and arriving in Piazza Grande.
