COMMITMENT TO INCREASINGLY SUSTAINABLE EVENTS

Montepulciano is a city rich in culture, events and artistic and musical manifestations that are increasingly sustainable, both from a social and environmental point of view. In our city, those who participate in an event contribute to solidarity initiatives in the municipal area and, in most cases, are welcomed by an organization that is attentive to the environmental sustainability of the event itself.

One euro of solidarity: starting from 2013 (with a brief pause in the Covid years) anyone who participates in initiatives in which food stands are set up, for each meal served, donates one euro to the “Solidarity Fund” established by the Municipality, aimed at supporting the social inclusion of people in difficulty. This is thanks to an agreement between the Municipality and the main associations in the area. From 2019 to 2023, the associations have paid over 35 thousand euros, which, together with municipal resources, have allowed us to finance 119 social inclusion projects.

Environmentally friendly events. On this front, there are many initiatives undertaken to make local events sustainable, from compostable tableware and public water dispensers at Live Rock, to the collaboration with Sugherovivo during Calici di Stelle in August, for a conscious collection of bottle caps, to the zero-mile choices of products used in the kitchens of the many dinners in the Contrade del Bravìo, stations for proper recycling and much more.

From this point of view, the Municipal Administration has created, together with the territorial circle “Terra e Pace” of Legambiente, a practical Vademecum to help associations promote sustainable events.
